Bedroom privacy

The design challenge was to move the bedroom door and not have it look like a renovation while taking advantage of the old entrance alcove for a built in.

 This is the before picture.

The new entrance is to the left.

I built three bookcases joined together with pocket hole screws.

I built the horizontal top space in place and trimmed it out.

I made the new opening the same height as the bookcase so the trim elevation would match.  The new door trim valance hides the barn door track for the 96" door.

This is the new door from the inside.

Another aspect of this renovation was a display area for the clients tile collection ( they got one from every place they ever went and the kids always know what to get them for Christmas), and fortunately the basement was full of left over hickory trim parts from the kitchen.  With minor modification  it worked great.

The last part was a cat emporium for the precious felines.

A two way swinging floor hinge allows door to go in both directions. We came back a year after they got settled and helped with the wine cellar, this is the new door.

This is the inside and I am sure it is filled by now.
